Why you might like The Stable
The Stable is a place where local freelancers, small businesses, start-ups and scale-ups can meet each other, work together and share ideas. The building has several rooms for hire (including a spacious loft, a board room and several smaller meeting rooms) where you can hold your own meetings, workshops and courses, or perhaps offer business advice drop-in sessions for members. If you offer business advice services or courses that would be useful to those who use The Stable, or perhaps you’re on the speaking circuit and think your experience could help inspire those in their formative stages, get in touch. Members of The Stable get discounts of up to 50% on room hire rates, and non-members are very welcome to hire rooms on an hourly, half-day or full-day basis.
Networking and social groups
The Stable is keen to host evening and lunchtime events and Meet Ups. Do you run – or would you like to run – a specific Meet Up, informal or professional networking group such as techie brekkies, coders' gatherings, digital photography tips groups? Ours is a great venue in the centre of town, within walking distance of many cafes, eateries and bars. Outside catering can be organised if required – The Heritage café shares our building and address, at 3-6 Wadham St, for instance and is always very happy to talk food!
If you offer digital or multi-media marketing advice to small businesses to help them reach new audiences, consider offering your services at The Stable. Daytime sessions or evening event hire for a one-off event or workshop could easily land you a few new clients at the beginning of their journeys.
Accountancy and legal advice
Law for sole traders…getting set up with the right software to run your finances effectively and economically…there are myriad ways in which those offering professional services could help our small businesses grow (while probably gaining you a few new clients). Why not hot-desk at The Stable to get to know some of our members and then consider the type of regular advice sessions or workshops you might like to run here.
Pitching for funding
Bid writing and approaching supporting bodies for grants and funding is both a minefield and an art form. Happily, there are people on hand in Weston who do this for a living, with years of experience in both writing and evaluating pitches and bids. The team that successfully got The Stable off the ground is just waiting to help you with your bid writing efforts, for example. If you have a niche business-related skill from what to write on business loan applications to how to secure funding, there will be people at The Stable keen to pick your brains. Get in touch to discuss the possibilities.
Members of The Stable will have access to our insider knowledge on any funding and support that's available to them. Well, it's not really 'insider knowledge' to be honest, it's all in the public domain, but some sources of funding or skills support for individuals and small businesses aren't as visible as we'd all like them to be. Join The Stable and we'll keep you updated on upcoming opportunities and looming deadlines in this vein and if you offer or administer any pots of money to help accelerate small business growth in the region, get in touch so I can add you to our list.

As I write (in early August), the website is a work in progress. The photography will be updated as each room is refurbished, and many rooms for hire along with their hire costs will be added to the mix. Once the site is complete by mid-September (we just wanted to get it live for now so that you can see what’s in the pipeline) the plan is to start penning in loads of regular social, work-related and business events. If you’d like to discuss any of the above, get in touch today or book a tour in from September onwards to get a feel for the space and we'll look forward to perhaps welcoming you as a host or guest at an event here soon.
